Professional Development

DSI offers professional development on a number of topics relating to interactive drama strategies, active learning, collaborative learning, social and emotional development, brain-based learning, process communication, trauma-informed care, classroom management, and more. Teachers and schools now use DSI’s Dramatic Engagers to increase academic achievement, improve relationships, enhance self-esteem, create positive classroom climate, reduce discipline problems, and develop social skills and character virtues of students.

Games, Energizer, and Brain Breaks for Academic Achievement

This one to four-part training explore how active and cooperative drama strategies can support academic achievement for High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Students. Theses scientific research strategies are proven with grades 1-12 and are revolutionizing how we teach and learn. The interactive and engaging approach empowers the students to engage, retain and transfer information. The activities will help educators engage their participants more effectively with tools they can use in their curricula or modules that make learning more fun and act as a strong vehicle for academic enrichment. Games, Energizer, and Brain Breaks for Social & Emotional Learning

Healing Trauma Informed Approach through Drama

This one to two-part training will explore the effects of trauma, why drama techniques are appropriate for trauma survivors, and activities that participants can apply in their work. We will review the concepts and theories of Adverse Childhood Experiences, Executive Functioning Development and Complex Trauma. Participants learn how stepping into the roles of mediator and negotiator, participants will learn how they can detect early signs of stress, conflict, resolve disagreements, avoid possible negative consequences and most importantly build resiliency. We will explore role-training options and processing strategies that will help students delve into common triggers and problems in the classroom. It incorporates brain-based, hands-on, skills development learning to help educators and group leaders become more flexible and effective troubleshooters and problem solvers.

Interactive Storytelling & Social & Emotional Learning

This one to two-part training combines storytelling and participant centered practices to build social and emotional skills, support engagement, and encourage creative and critical thinking skills for early learning programs. Through a mixture of demonstration, practice, and reflection participants will collaborate to learn a story, expand upon it, and add points of participant – both verbally and physically. The educators will learn how to interactively engage their students and develop their self -regulation skills and develop ways to build healthy relationships. Reach All Teach All Effective Communication

This two-day seminar on educator relations is designed to help achieve quality in providing professional services through more effective communication. The educator will learn how to target communication to satisfy the student’s motivational needs as well as those of their colleagues and administrators and the student’s parents. They will be given tools to develop an individualized teaching style that will enable them to connect quickly with and motivate their students. They also will be given strategies to enable them to communicate effectively with disgruntled students and parents.

Process Education Model®

This three-day training program is designed to teach educators how to use a process approach to connect with and motivate students so that no student is left behind. They will also learn how to deal with students and colleagues in distress. In addition to the course manual, participants will receive their own individualized profiles which includes their personality structure, strengths, stressors and an action plan for success.

The Dramatic Teacher

This two or three-day train-the-teacher program incorporates proven techniques and strategies for training teachers how to use our approach. Participants will receive a curriculum design, facilitator’s guide, and a series of Dramatic Solutions signature “Dramatic Engagers” and “Dramatic Situations”. In addition, they will learn the power of successful processing and learning objectives. Participants will leave with a full day’s curriculum, practice in work with groups, and a clear understanding of how to make their groups active, engaging, and fun.

Parent and Family Workshops

The DSI parent and family program uses interactive workshops to provide parents and caregivers the opportunity to examine situations that jeopardize family relationships. Through creative activities, participants learn how economic, work-related, and personal pressures affect the stability of the family. DSI’s professional facilitators involve participants in carefully designed activities exploring common issues in child rearing and household management. The program offers a unique opportunity for parents to first understand the source of conflicts between family members, then to explore proactive solutions with their peers in a safe environment. Through this program, parents develop the tools to improve and nurture relationships within their families.

Year-Long- Partnerships

The year-long partnership is designed to promote replicable, sustainable, and scalable results. We invest heavily in teachers through comprehensive professional learning, mentoring, and coaching. Professional development for educators helps to ensure that students receive an excellent whole brain–based learning approach tailored to building classroom communities and academic success. We also support behavior staff with building school culture and restorative communities and peer coaching. Last, the partnership promotes parent involvement through parent workshops, which engage families in activities focused on student academic outcomes.
